How does the FAA limit  large scale wind turbines on MV
The FAA limits wind turbine height to protect aircraft.  The farther away from an airport a
wind turbine is, the greater its height can be.  It appears that the FAA will limit wind turbine
heights on the Vineyard - some examples are as follows:

Tisbury landfill 241' allowed
Charter School 236' allowed
West Tisbury School 201' allowed

The other main constraint on wind turbine size is the ability to actually transport them to the
island and maneuver them to their location.  An MTC study for the Town of Tisbury
indicates that a 600 to 900 kW turbine would approach the maximum size possible for
transportation through Five Corners.
